NFL Preview and Predictions

Posted by Adam on September 4, 2006

The NFL starts it’s season proper on Thursday night, so I figure now was as good of a time as any to take a look at the teams in the league and play pigskin pronosticator. I’m gonna break down division by division, then go into playoff picks, and throw out a couple of award picks to really go out on a limb. Also, after all of that fun is done I am going to give my predicitons for the week 1 winners. I am going to go through the season picking against the line and straight up to see if I can end up with a winning record. Let’s get to the standings —

NFC North

  1. Chicago Bears (11-5) Very weak schedule, despite playing 05 divsion champs
  2. Minnesota (8-8)
  3. Detroit (8-8) Both DET and MIN could be anywhere from 10-6 to 6-10
  4. Green Bay (4-12)

NFC East

  1. Philadelphia (10-6) Division is evenly matched, I think everyone splits their series
  2. Dallas (10-6)
  3. New York (10-6) Conference record could doom them, as they play SEA and CHI
  4. Washington (10-6)

NFC South

  1. Carolina (12-4) Best team in NFC if Foster stays healthy
  2. Tampa Bay (8-8)
  3. Atlanta (7-9)
  4. New Orleans (4-12) Very tough schedule, despite playing 05 4th placers

NFC West

  1. Seattle (13-3) Weak division helps them get home field
  2. Arizona (7-9)
  3. St Louis (6-10)
  4. San Francisco (4-12)

NFC Playoff Seeds

  1. Seattle
  2. Carolina
  3. Chicago
  4. Philadelphia
  5. Dallas
  6. New York

AFC North

  1. Cincinnati (11-5) Palmer looks healthy, I’m a believer
  2. Pittsburgh (10-6)
  3. Baltimore (8-8) Talented team, but schedule is too tough
  4. Cleveland (4-12)

AFC East

  1. Miami (11-5) I don’t buy the hype, but the schedule favors them
  2. New England (10-6) Can’t trust the defense
  3. Buffalo (5-11)
  4. New York (3-13) This is a bad team

AFC South

  1. Indianapolis (13-3) Best team in the league should cruise to playoffs
  2. Jacksonville (8-8)
  3. Tenessee (3-13) Still a year away from making any noise
  4. Houston (3-13)

AFC West

  1. San Diego (11-5) Conference record wins the division
  2. Denver (11-5)
  3. Kansas City (10-6) Ten wins won’t guarantee playoffs in the AFC
  4. Oakland (3-13)

AFC Playoff Seeds

  1. Indianapolis
  2. San Diego
  3. Cincinnatti
  4. Miami
  5. Denver
  6. New England

I usually don’t comment on posts regarding sports (i.e., my ignorance would show display itself quickly), but I had greater hopes for the Chiefs this past weekend. It was just embarassing to watch.
